Tradition meets precision

Fabrication of weights since 1873

Haigis, a former subsidiary of the scale manufacturer Bizerba, has been specialising in the fabrication of weights and machine components for nearly 150 years. High quality test weights and sophisticated machine components of the highest precision are produced in Albstadt-Onstmettingen in the Swabian Jura – also in contract production.

The company focused on the calibration of weights at the start of the realignment. Through division takeovers and the steady expansion of our train of machines, we are not only able to handle end-to-end weight fabrication in-house today; we also regularly prove our expertise as a supplier to Bosch Rexroth AG for high-precision and application-critical parts.

Flexibility in production allows us to produce both small and large series at attractive prices. Customers around the world value the high production quality of our test weights “Made in Albstadt”.

History

Haigis was founded in 1873 and, like all scale manufacturers in the region, follows the traditions of the mechanic and priest Philipp Matthäus Hahn, who worked in Onstmettingen at the end of the 18th century. He was the inventor of the inclination balance, which he developed as simple kitchen scales for the parish cook.

Haigis was transformed into a stock corporation in 1919 and acquired by Emil Büchel in 1934. Heinz Büchel took over the company in 1972, succeeded by his son Dr Harald Büchel in 1984.

Bizerba SE acquired a majority interest in Gottl. Haigis Präzisionwaagen und Gewichtefabrik for strategic reasons in 1990. Haigis Gewichtefertigung GmbH was newly founded with 3 employees on 1 July 1997 and has grown steadily ever since, to more than 60 employees today.
